Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 slice sturdy bread Sourdough, country white, or multigrain work great.
  • 1 large egg Use extra large if preferred, adjusting cook time by 30-60 seconds.
  • 2-3 tablespoons shredded cheese Cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey Jack, Swiss, or provolone melt well.
  • 1 pinch kosher salt Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • 1 pinch black pepper Adjust seasoning to taste.

Optional Enhancements

  • 1 pat butter For finishing around the edges.
  • 1 dash hot sauce Optional for added flavor.
  • red pepper flakes For finishing if desired.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the air fryer to 350 F for 3 minutes.
  • Place a slice of sturdy bread on a piece of parchment that fits your basket and press a shallow well in the center.
  • Scatter a small ring of shredded cheese around the well to help hold the egg.

Cooking

  • Crack the egg into a small bowl and gently pour it into the well.
  • Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper. Add more cheese on top if desired.
  • Air fry for 6 to 11 minutes, depending on your preferred yolk doneness. Start checking at 6 minutes.
  • Finish with a pat of butter and optional red pepper flakes or hot sauce, then serve immediately.

Notes

If the top of your egg is set but the bottom looks soft, slide a small piece of foil under the toast for the last minute. Customize with toppings to your taste.
