Ingredients

For the Poppers

  • 10 pieces Fresh jalapenos Look for ones that feel firm and smooth
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Softened for easier mixing
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese You can use one variety or both
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 5 slices Bacon Optional, but classic
  • 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs For added crunch, optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the jalapenos in half lengthwise and use a spoon to scrape out the seeds and the white ribs.
  • Mix the filling in a bowl, combining cream cheese, shredded cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add a splash of lime juice for tang if desired.
  • Spoon the filling into each jalapeno half, mounding it slightly. If using bacon, wrap each jalapeno with a half slice, securing with a toothpick if needed.

Cooking

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for about 3 minutes.
  • Place the poppers in a single layer in the air fryer. Cook without overcrowding.
  • Cook for 6 to 9 minutes without bacon, or 10 to 14 minutes with bacon, flipping if needed, until the cheese is bubbly and the top is lightly browned.
  • If using bacon, raise the temperature to 390°F for an additional 1 to 2 minutes if needed.
  • Let poppers cool for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

For advanced preparation, you can prep the filling and jalapenos up to 2 days in advance or fully assemble them up to 24 hours in advance. They can also be frozen for later use.
