Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 piece New York strip steak, 1 to 1.25 inches thick, about 10 to 12 ounces
  • 1-2 teaspoons olive oil or avocado oil Use a thin coat
  • to taste Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder, optional
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder, optional
  • 1 tablespoon butter for finishing, optional
  • to taste Fresh herbs like thyme or parsley, optional

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Pat the steak dry with paper towels.
  • Rub lightly with oil and season on all sides with salt and pepper. Add garlic and onion powder if desired.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.

Cooking

  • Place the steak in the basket.
  • Cook for 4 to 6 minutes, then flip.
  • Cook for another 3 to 6 minutes, depending on thickness and desired doneness.
  • Check with a thermometer at the thickest part; aim for 125 to 130 for medium rare, 135 to 140 for medium.

Finishing

  • Transfer the steak to a plate and top with butter if desired.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a bistro-style finish, rub the steak with a crushed garlic clove while it rests and add a small knob of butter and flaky salt. If your air fryer runs hot or cold, adjust the timing accordingly.
