Ingredients
  

For the Hamburger Steaks

  • 2 pounds ground beef 80/20 for juiciness
  • 1 large onion (diced) For flavor and garnish
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs For binding
  • 1 large egg For binding
  • 2 teaspoons salt Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon pepper Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Seasoning
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce For flavor

For the Gravy

  • 1 cup beef broth For a rich flavor
  • 2 tablespoons flour For thickening

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, combine ground beef with breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently.
  • Form the mixture into patties about ¾ inch thick.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add oil. Sear each patty for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Remove the patties and set aside. In the same skillet, add diced onions and cook until softened.
  • Sprinkle flour over the onions and cook for 1 minute. Slowly add beef broth while stirring to combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer until thickened, then return the patties to the pan.
  • Cover and transfer to the oven, baking for 30 minutes.

Serving

  • Allow the dish to rest for 5 minutes before serving to let the juices settle.

Notes

You can add mushrooms to the dish or use cornstarch instead of flour for a gluten-free option. Leftovers taste even better the next day; store in an airtight container in the fridge.
