Ingredients
  

For the Base

  • 2 cups cream soda, chilled or use your favorite vanilla soda
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons butterscotch sauce start with 3, add more if you like it sweeter
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt keeps it from becoming too sweet

For the Topping

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions
 

Prepare the Topping

  • In a bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until thick but still soft.

Mix the Butterbeer Base

  • In a separate cup or small bowl, mix together the melted butter, vanilla extract, pinch of salt, and butterscotch sauce.
  • If your butterscotch sauce is thick, warm it slightly to help it blend smoothly.

Build Your Glass

  • Divide the butterscotch mixture between two glasses.
  • Slowly pour cream soda into each glass and stir gently.

Top It Off

  • Spoon the whipped topping on top and optionally drizzle some butterscotch sauce for garnish.

Taste and Adjust

  • Take a sip and adjust the sweetness by adding more butterscotch if desired.

Notes

For a warm version, substitute soda with warmed milk and adjust the butterscotch. Refrigerate the butterscotch mixture ahead of time for up to 2 days without pouring in the soda or adding the topping until serving.
