Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb 80/20 ground beef Choose fresh for best flavor and texture.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Sweet onions work best.
  • 4 slices American cheese Can substitute with cheddar or provolone.
  • 4 pieces hero rolls Soft hero rolls are preferred.
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce For topping.
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced For freshness.
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise Can substitute with chipotle mayo for extra kick.
  • 4 tbsp ketchup To taste.
  • to taste salt and pepper For seasoning.

Method

Cooking the Beef
  1. Heat a large griddle or skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and break it up slightly.
  3. Add the chopped onion and continue to cook until the beef is browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. As the beef cooks, chop and stir the mixture with a spatula to create smaller, uneven pieces.
  5. Once the beef is cooked through, lower the heat and place the cheese slices on top to melt.
Assembling the Sandwich
  1. Toast the hero rolls until slightly crispy.
  2. Scoop the beef and cheese mixture onto the toasted rolls.
  3. Top with shredded lettuce, tomato slices, mayonnaise, and ketchup.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy the messy goodness!

Notes

Feel free to customize toppings and sauces as you like. Great with pickles or hot sauce for an extra kick. Leftovers can be reheated in a skillet to retain their texture.
