Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pounds pork shoulder or butt Trim some fat for less greasiness.
  • 1 can Coca-Cola Do not use diet cola; sugar is essential for carmelization.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite BBQ sauce.
Spices
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika or garlic powder Optional, use what you have on hand.

Method

Preparation
  1. Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika or garlic powder.
  3. Pour Coca-Cola over the pork until it is mostly covered.
  4. Cover and set the slow cooker to low for 8 hours.
Finishing
  1. After 8 hours, shred the pork directly in the pot using two forks.
  2. Stir in the BBQ sauce and mix well.

Notes

For the best flavor, do not rush the cooking time; allow the pork to cook slowly. Leftovers can be kept in the fridge for 3-4 days and can also be frozen for up to 3 months. To reheat, add a splash of broth or additional sauce to keep it moist.
