Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 pounds pork shoulder or butt Trim some fat for less greasiness.
  • 1 can Coca-Cola Do not use diet cola; sugar is essential for carmelization.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite BBQ sauce.

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika or garlic powder Optional, use what you have on hand.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker.
  • Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika or garlic powder.
  • Pour Coca-Cola over the pork until it is mostly covered.
  • Cover and set the slow cooker to low for 8 hours.

Finishing

  • After 8 hours, shred the pork directly in the pot using two forks.
  • Stir in the BBQ sauce and mix well.

Notes

For the best flavor, do not rush the cooking time; allow the pork to cook slowly. Leftovers can be kept in the fridge for 3-4 days and can also be frozen for up to 3 months. To reheat, add a splash of broth or additional sauce to keep it moist.
