Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Ground beef Any fat content works, typically 80/20.
  • 1 medium Onion Diced.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 8 oz Mushrooms Optional.
  • 2 cups Beef broth From a carton or bouillon cubes.
  • 1 cup Sour cream Do not replace with yogurt.
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Flour For thickening.
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Essential for flavor.
  • 12 oz Egg noodles For serving.
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook until soft.
  3. Stir in minced garlic.
  4. If using, add mushrooms and cook until they shrink.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir to prevent lumps.
  6. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, bringing it to a simmer until thickened.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream.
  8. Serve over cooked egg noodles.

Notes

Reserve some pasta water if the sauce feels too thick. Taste as you go to adjust seasoning.
