  • 2-4 medium medium sweet potatoes, similar size helps them cook evenly
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil or melted ghee
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional but so good)
  • to taste Black pepper

Optional Toppings

  • to taste maple syrup
  • to taste chopped pecans
  • to taste fresh herbs
  • 1 squeeze lime
  • to taste chili flake

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat the oven to 400°F (390°F if your oven runs hot).
  • Scrub the sweet potatoes without peeling them.
  • Slice the sweet potatoes Hasselback style, using chopsticks or a wooden spoon handle to prevent cutting all the way through.
  • Mix olive oil with salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.

Baking

  • Brush the oil mixture over each potato, ensuring some oil gets into the slices.
  • Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet and bake for 45 to 60 minutes, brushing again at the 20-minute mark.

Finishing Touches

  • Add optional toppings to taste, such as herbs and pecans or a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

Choosing medium sweet potatoes ensures even cooking. Do not skip the mid-bake baste for better seasoning. A sharp knife is recommended for easier slicing. If the potatoes brown too fast, lightly cover them with foil.
