Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cake Angel food cake, about 1 store bought cake or homemade, cut into bite-sized cubes Store-bought is convenient; if homemade, let it cool completely before cubing.
  • 1 can cherry pie filling (or blueberry, strawberry, or mixed berry) Choose a fruit you enjoy.
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 oz)
  • 1.5 cups cold milk For mixing with pudding.
  • 1 cup sour cream Adds a fluffy cheesecake vibe.
  • 1 tub whipped topping, thawed (8 oz) For the topping.
  • Optional: sliced almonds or chocolate shavings for topping To enhance presentation.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the angel food cake into cubes about 1 inch in size.
  • Add about half the cake cubes to the bottom of your dish for an even layer.
  • Spoon half the pie filling over the cake and gently spread it.
  • In a bowl, whisk the pudding mix with cold milk for about 2 minutes until thickened.
  • Stir in the sour cream until smooth. It may look lumpy at first but will become creamy.
  • Fold in about half of the whipped topping to lighten the mixture.
  • Spread the pudding mixture over the fruit layer.
  • Add the remaining cake cubes and the rest of the pie filling.
  • Top with the remaining whipped topping and smooth it out, then cover and chill for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Notes

Let it chill long enough for the cake to soak up some cream and fruit juices. This dessert is best if made ahead of time. Can be served in individual cups or jars for easy serving.
