Ingredients
  

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup melted butter (salted or unsalted) Let cool slightly before mixing.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour Scoop and level for accurate measurement.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Ensure it's fresh for best results.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Use less if butter is very salty.

Chocolate Chips

  • 1 cup chocolate chips Plus a few extra for topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, stir the melted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until glossy and smooth.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Add all purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir just until dry flour disappears.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and save a small handful to press on top.
  • Scoop dough into balls (about 1 1/2 tablespoons each) and place them on the baking sheet, leaving space between.

Baking

  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until edges are set but the center is still soft.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

For gooey cookies, pull them at 9 minutes; for a more structured cookie, go closer to 11 minutes. Press extra chocolate chips on top for a classic look.
