Ingredients
  

Dough and Basic Fillings

  • 1 pack Pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup Ricotta cheese, optional Can be used for added creaminess
  • 1 large Egg, beaten with a splash of water For egg wash
  • as needed Olive oil spray For greasing and to achieve crispy texture
  • as needed Flour for rolling To prevent sticking when rolling out the dough

Popular Fillings

  • 1/2 cup Pepperoni Classic choice
  • 1/2 cup Cooked sausage, diced ham, or turkey sausage For meat lovers option
  • 1/3 cup Sautéed mushrooms For veggie filling
  • 1/2 cup Fresh spinach For veggie filling
  • 1/2 cup Cherry tomatoes Caprese-inspired filling

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Dust your counter with flour and cut the dough into small pieces about the size of a golf ball.
  • Roll each piece into a thin circle about 4 to 5 inches wide.
  • Place a spoonful of ricotta cheese if using, a handful of mozzarella, then your desired fillings.
  • Brush the edges lightly with water, fold the dough over the filling, and crimp to seal.
  • Poke the top with a fork to vent steam.

Cooking

  • Brush the tops of the calzones with egg wash for color.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
  • Spray the basket lightly with olive oil, arrange calzones with space between them.
  • Air fry at 375°F for 7 to 9 minutes until golden on top.
  • Let them rest for 2 minutes before serving with dipping sauces.

Notes

Keep fillings on the dry side to prevent sogginess. Serve with marinara or other sauces for dipping. Mini calzones can be frozen and air fried from frozen.
