  • 8-12 pieces chicken drumsticks (skin on or skin off) The number of drumsticks can vary based on size.
  • 1.5-2 cups Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce Adjust based on preference.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Optional, mainly for browning.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder For seasoning.
  • 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika Optional but recommended.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
  • Nonstick spray or a little oil for the slow cooker insert To prevent sticking.

Preparation

  • Pat the drumsticks dry with paper towels to help the sauce stick better.
  • Season drumsticks with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Lightly grease the slow cooker insert with nonstick spray or oil.
  • Lay the drumsticks in the slow cooker, ensuring they are not packed too tightly.
  • Pour Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce over the drumsticks and use tongs to coat them evenly.

Cooking

  • Cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.
  • Optional: move drumsticks to a foil-lined baking sheet, brush with extra sauce, and broil for 2 to 4 minutes to achieve a caramelized finish.

Notes

For optimal results, dry the chicken before seasoning and do not add too much sauce at the beginning. Broiling at the end adds great texture. Store leftover chicken in an airtight container for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
