Base Ingredients

  • 1 can refried beans You can also use homemade refried beans.
  • 8 oz cream cheese Softened, for a creamy layer.
  • 1 cup sour cream Adds tanginess.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Or a mix of chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and salt.
  • 1 lb cooked ground beef or spicy sausage Optional, but enhances flavor.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese A mix of cheddar and Monterey Jack is ideal.

Toppings

  • 1 can green chiles or jalapenos For added heat.
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes or salsa Make sure to drain to avoid excess water.
  • 1/2 cup black olives Optional, based on preference.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease an 8x8 baking dish.
  • If using meat, brown the ground beef or sausage in a skillet, then drain the grease and stir in the taco seasoning with a splash of water.
  • In a bowl, mix the refried beans, softened cream cheese, and sour cream until well combined.

Assembling and Baking

  • Spread the bean mixture into the greased baking dish.
  • Layer in the seasoned meat if you're using it.
  • Top with drained tomatoes or salsa and sprinkle with green chiles or jalapenos.
  • Finally, cover with a generous layer of shredded cheese.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes or until bubbly and cheese is melted.

Serving

  • Let the dip rest for 5 minutes before serving to thicken slightly.

Notes

Ideal for parties, you can serve with tortilla chips, Fritos, or mini bell peppers. Leftovers can be used in quesadillas or as baked potato filling.
